2018 could (whisper it) be one of the most exciting years to date in the lettings industry (maybe). Change is in the air - for instance, the Tenant Fees Bill is due to pass through the Houses of Common and Lords to become an Act, and the effects of Brexit continue to make themselves felt within the property and housing markets.
Of course, these are the changes we know about - who can tell what might happen in Westminster next year or what new legislation might come through that has an impact on the industry? If the last couple of years have taught us anything, it's that anything can (and probably will) happen, regardless of what everyone predicts.
However, we can only work with what we know - all you can do is try to ensure that you know enough about potential developments and are knowledgeable enough about your industry to gauge any potential impacts and try to turn problems-in-waiting into opportunities. For instance, we know that the Tenant Fees Bill is going to negatively affect everyone's revenue streams, so why not see this as a chance to expand your offering and attempt to break into a new market?
It's a cliche at this time of year for thinkpieces and opinion pieces to emerge, holding forth on what the developments of the next year will be and what you should be doing about them now. While we wouldn't normally produce anything remotely as click-baity as that, the idea of 2018 being such an exciting year is difficult to pass up. With that in mind, we've put together our last eBook of the year, entitled What to Expect From the Lettings Industry in 2018. In it, we talk about the impacts of Brexit and the Tenant Fees Bill, in addition to the increasing adoption of technology and the ever-increasing size of generation rent. There's a lot to get stuck into, so click on the link below to download it, and remember to let us know if it's helped you!
